Iris Maxine Cook Allen, 93, of Asheboro, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday October 8, 2020, at Oaklawn Cemetery, with Rev. Edward Ramsey officiating. A native of Davidson Co., Mrs. Allen was born on February 11, 1927, the daughter of Viola and Jethro Cook. She graduated from Denton High School in 1944 and Rex Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She was a staff nurse at Randolph Hospital for her entire career. Mrs. Allen was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and the D.W. Holt Sunday School Class. She was a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, J.B. Allen, Jr.; and brothers, Kent Cook and Fayne Hill. She is survived by her daughter, Jill Allen Spillane and husband Don of Cary, NC; son, John B. Allen III of Pinehurst; grandchildren, Caroline Allen and husband Victor Hernandez, Caitlin Bailey and husband Brian, Sara Lane and husband Christopher, Samantha Spillane; great grandchildren, Eliza Lane, Ballard Lane, Shepherd Lane, and Natalie Bailey. The body will lie in state from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Ridge Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff of Cross Road Retirement Community and Hospice of Randolph County for their excellent care.
