H.Wade Yates

Mr. Henry Wade Yates, 89, of Asheboro, NC, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, July 3, 2011, at First Baptist Church with Dr. John Rogers and Dr. J. B. Gibson officiating. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Yates was born June 7, 1922. He was the son of the late John Mavin Yates and Roxie Elizabeth Garner Yates. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Asheboro, having served in several leadership roles. He was also a member and past president of The Lions Club of Randolph County. After graduating from Mars Hill College, he attended Wake Forest University Law School, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1943. He practiced law for 44 years, was a tax attorney, prosecutor for four years and county court judge for four years. In 1987 he retired from law practice, but continued his position of Secretary-Treasurer of Randolph County Farmer's Mutual Association. In addition to his parents, Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Myrtle Williams Yates, daughter, Linda Yates Sherrill, son-in-law, Mike Sherrill, and his four brothers John, George, Clay, and Ralph Yates. Mr. Yates is survived by his daughter, Patricia Yates, of Kannapolis, NC; son, Stephen Yates and wife, Gail, of Hot Springs, NC; brother, Glenn Yates, of Denton, NC; grandchildren, Greg Sherrill, Keith Sherrill and wife, Julie, Ping Su Yates, Kelly Yates, Jeremy Yates, Chris Yates and wife, Julia, Jennifer Yates Cicali; great grandchildren, Ryan Sherrill, Hannah Sherrill, Kensley Yates, Ella Yates and Lillian Yates. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
