Howard Warren Phillips

Mr. Howard Warren Phillips, Sr., 85, of 1623 US Hwy 64 West, Asheboro, died Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. A native of Chatham County, NC, Mr. Phillips was born December 25, 1925. He was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Phillips and Selena Missouria Myrick Phillips. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1943 and he retired from the US Postal Service. Mr. Phillips attended Balfour Baptist Church. He was a decorated US Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific during WW II, where he received a Purple Heart. He was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed playing music. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lambert Phillips; son, Keith Eugene Phillips; daughter-in-law, Karin Wruck Phillips; sisters, Mary Winfield, Angie Moody; brothers, Payton Phillips, Woodrow Phillips, Robert Phillips, Jennings Phillips, Talmadge Phillips and Ray Phillips, Mr. Phillips is survived by sons, Howard Warren Phillips, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Asheboro, Jonathan E. Phillips, of Asheboro; sisters, Sarah Phillips, Thelma Branson, both of Siler City, and Alma Garner, of Coleridge. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
