Hildegard "Hilde" Schwerdthoefer Cheek, 82, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at her home. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Doug Hefner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Born May 20, 1935 in Steinwenden, Germany, Mrs. Cheek was the daughter of the late Karl and Anna Schwerdthoefer. She was married to her husband, Marvin Cheek on September 19, 1953. Mrs. Cheek was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she joined in 1954. She was retired from Acme McCrary after 51 years of service. She loved to cook her German dishes and was known for her German potato salad. She also enjoyed eating and visiting the Mexican bakery. Mrs. Cheek loved to read books on history and the Royals. She loved all animals, especially rescues, and she enjoyed watching birds. Ducks were her favorite. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she loved them dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Alicea Barnwell. Survivors include her husband, Marvin Cheek of the home; son, Doug Cheek and wife, Sharon of Asheboro; sister, Anni Becker of Germany; grandchildren, Chris Walker, Scott Walker and wife, Jill, Megan Cheek, Tiffany Hulin; great-grandchildren, Cody Walker, Kaitlyn Walker, Caleb Walker, Camden Walker; and great-great-grandchildren, Kasey Walker, Jade Walker; and her only niece living in the U.S., Renate Auman.
