A celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 908 Albemarle Road, Asheboro, NC, 27203, with Charles Reeder officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at www.ridgefuneralhome.com.

Hilda Eugene Brown York was born on August 20, 1938, in Asheboro, North Carolina to Clifford and Pauline Brown. Hilda graduated from Asheboro High School in 1956. She was president of the Future Homemakers Club and an active member of her senior class. She and her family were active members at Browers Chapel in Asheboro.

She married Dennis Raymond York, Jr. of Asheboro, North Carolina on Dec. 16, 1956 in Browers Chapel. After the birth of their two sons, Mike and Mark, they moved to Sarasota, Florida where Hilda enjoyed daily trips to the beach with her boys.

In 1963, Dennis and Hilda moved to Dallas, Texas where they raised their two sons and were active members of First Baptist Dallas. Hilda taught a Sunday School class for young professional women, and later, along with Dennis, taught third grade Sunday School for over 15 years. They also enjoyed being part of a special Training Union class where they made lifelong friends.

She excelled as a dental receptionist in the Dallas area where she adopted the dentist’s family as part of her own. You would also often find her grooming her yard to meticulous perfection and cooking delicious meals for her family and friends to enjoy in her well-appointed dining room. One could not easily forget her potato salad placed in a crystal bowl, warm rum cakes, and her powdery white pecan sandies.

Hilda loved her parents, two sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family well. She loved to spend time with them, travel with them, and took time to care for each of them.

Hilda gladly embraced the roll of grandmother. “MaMaw” loved spending time with her three grandchildren, whether it was cuddling with a book, making a tent under the kitchen table, baking together, shopping for them, taking them on wagon rides, or treating them to Disney World.

In her later years, Hilda lived with her son, Mark and his family in Plano, Texas where she enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow up to be young adults, all the while loving Little Bit, the family chihuahua. Hilda was also blessed with the title of great grandmother, who then affectionally became known as “Ma”.

Throughout her adult life, Hilda was a faithful prayer warrior who prayed for many by name and lovingly cared for her sons and family. Above all that she accomplished in life; Hilda would say her best decision was accepting Jesus as her Savior. Today we have assurance she is where she longed to be; praising her Savior, while being reunited with so many she loved.

Hilda is proceeded in death, by her father and mother, Clifford and Pauline Brown; her two sisters, Libby Freeman and Jane Lewis; and her son, Clifford Michael York.

She is survived by her son, Mark and daughter-in-law Tammye York, of Plano, Texas; her former husband and friend, Dennis York of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter and grand son-in-law, Lindsay and Ryan Maloney of Tennessee; granddaughter, Abbey York of Plano, Texas; grandson Ryan York of Houston, Texas; and two great granddaughters. Also surviving are her three nieces, Anne Freeman Sykes, Sue Freeman Swengross, Kay Freeman, and nephew Charles Freeman originally from North Carolina and Virginia area. Hilda is also survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Lewis of Asheboro along with his sons, Jonathan Lewis and Phillip Lewis also of North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane York of Little Elm Texas, along with Hilda’s Texas nephews and niece, David York, Joanna Reeder, Nathan York and their families. She is also survived by her cousin and lifelong friend, Diane Deaton Cox of Asheboro, North Carolina and family; as well as, her “adopted daughters”, Laurie Lyle and Linda Elnto from Texas and Hawaii.

The family will receive guests from 10:00am until 11:00am on Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home prior to the service.
