Hazel Irene Hooker Pierce, 95, of Sophia, died Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Randolph Health in Asheboro. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 2, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Hugh Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Hazel was born on April 21, 1926, in Randolph County, to the late D.E. "Bud" Hooker and Nealie Creath Hundley. She had worked in textiles and the furniture industry. Her greatest achievements were taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid church goer and loved cooking. She was a member of South Plainfield Friends all of her adult life and she was a faithful member of the Ladies Missionary Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Eva Ferree, Juanita Breedlove, Mozelle Routh; brothers, Clyde Hooker, J.D. Hooker; and great grandchild, Harrison Campbell. She is survived by husband of 75 years, William "Bub" Pierce of the home; daughters, Dianne Pierce Plummer (Michael), Rose Pierce Blackburn (David), Cindy Pierce Cody (Al); son, Johnny Pierce of Sophia; sister, Estelle Hooker Saunders of Asheboro; grandchildren, Jonathan Gooch, Amy Stone (Greg), Will Plummer (Rodney), Jennifer Pierce, Jeremy Testerman (Andrea), Kevin Blackburn (Katie), Chad Testerman (Sarah), Kristen Marine (Shane Campbell); four step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021, and other times at the home of David and Rose Blackburn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made South Plainfield Friends, 4033 Plainfield Road, Sophia, NC 27350.
