Mr. Harold Ralph Thompson, 76, of Asheboro, NC, died Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Whynot Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ron Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Anson County, NC, Mr. Thompson was born September 30, 1935. He was the son of the late Claude Alexander Thompson and Affie Lillie Rorie Thompson. He was a graduate of Seagrove High School and a Little League Baseball coach for 19 years. He had worked for Acme-McCrary Corporation and retired from Klaussner Furniture Industries. He was a charter member of Whynot Wesleyan Church and had served as the church treasurer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude Thompson, Jr. and Robert B. Thompson, and his sisters, Vera T. Carter and Wilma T. Shaw. Mr. Thompson served in the US Army. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Grace Yow Thompson, of the home; daughter, Sharon Koontz, and husband Edward, of Centreville, MD; son, Michael Thompson, and wife Debbie, of Sophia, NC; sisters, Agnes Boling, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Betty Parks, and husband L. H., of Asheboro, NC, Rebecca Cheek, and husband Edward, of Coleridge, NC, Ruby Councilman, and husband Vernon, of Asheboro, NC; brother, Raymond Thompson, and wife Jean, of Steeds, NC, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Whynot Wesleyan Church, 1402 NC Highway 705 East, Seagrove, NC 27341.
