Grace Lucille Brown Voncannon, 94, of Asheboro, NC, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Central United Methodist Church, Asheboro, with Pastor Terry Matthews officiating. Interment will be in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, Asheboro, NC. Grace was born in Randolph Co., NC, to Minnie Williams Brown and Eazor Franklin Brown. She served with her husband, a retired Methodist minister, at Bethel-Julian-Shiloh and Liberty circuits, Belmont; South Point (Gastonia), New Mount Vernon (Thomasville) and Ogburn Memorial (Winston-Salem) from 1962 to 1985. Grace served her husband, Howard, a visitation minister at Central United Methodist Church, Asheboro, from 1985 - 1996. Grace was a house wife and mother who enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts, ceramics, gardening, canning and freezing foods. In later years, she enjoyed painting with acrylics. She served in various roles: Home Demonstration leader, 4-H leader, classroom parent for her children and Sunday school teacher of the youth. In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Howard Voncannon. Mrs. Voncannon is survived by her daughter, Doris V. Pennington (Larry); son, Alvin Howard Voncannon (Emma Sue); grandchildren, Alison P. Barnes, of Greensboro, NC, Amy P. Shelton (Alex), and Kristin V. Edmonds, all of Asheboro, NC; great grandchildren, Ashley E. Shelton, Andrea N. Shelton, Anna Grace Shelton, all of Asheboro, NC, Luke P. Barnes, of Greensboro, NC; sister, Molene B. Russell, of Asheboro, NC; nephew, Richard Russell and family, of Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 .p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Central United Methodist Church, Asheboro. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro, NC 27203. A special thanks goes to all of Grace's loving caregivers over the years: Trina Smith, Donna Jordan, Becky Loflin, Kim Billups, Sarah Perkins, Tina Rouse, Tina Braddy, Ashley, Andrea, Anna and Amy Shelton. The family also thanks United Hospice for the excellent service provided. For the faithful friends and neighbors who have visited, the family is most grateful.
