Glenn "Red" Hurley

April 22, 1931 — May 3, 2014

Rev. Glenn McCoy "Red" Hurley, 83, of Asheboro, NC, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Faith Community Church with Rev. Tony Sparks and Rev. Wayne Eller, officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph County, NC, Rev. Hurley was born April 22, 1931. He was the son of the late Wade McCoy Hurley and Vida Jarrett Hurley. He played football at Asheboro High School from 1947-1950 and was known for wrecking the "Gray Goose" on Park Street. He raced cars and was known as the "Outlaw". Rev. Hurley served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW in Lexington. He was a retired insurance salesman with Durham Life and served as the pastor at Holly Bluff Campground for 30 years. He also owned Red's Sunoco in Ramseur. NC. He enjoyed bowling and loved God, life and his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Hurley. Rev. Hurley is survived by wife, Gail L. Hurley, of the home; daughter, Sharon Howell and husband, Kevin, of Asheboro; sons, Billy Hurley, of the home, Rusty Hurley and wife, Amy, Randy Hurley, all of Asheboro; sisters, Louise Pridgett, Shirley Turner and husband, Jeff, all of Asheboro, Lucy Kirkman and husband, Mike, Bonnie Brown, all of Randleman; grandchildren, Brandon Howell, Emma Howell, Nicklaus Howell, Steven Hurley, Brandon Hurley and Cody Hurley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home for the care shown to Red.
