Glen Jack Smith, 79, of 5197 Ridge Road, Seagrove, NC 27341, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 25th at 4:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, Asheboro, NC, with the Reverend Christopher Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Whynot Wesleyan Cemetery, Whynot, NC. Mr. Smith was born in Allegany County Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents Jack Clyde Smith and Beatrice Upton Smith and his brother Tilllman Lee Smith. He grew up in Kanawha City, West Virginia. He completed 2 years of college before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He proudly served a total of 27 years in service to his country. He received numerous commendations, medals, awards and letters of recognition including one from former President Richard M. Nixon in recognition of his outstanding achievements. He was a proud and loving husband and father who enjoyed reminding his children that he had to travel halfway around the world in order to find them the perfect mother. He is survived by his wife Monica of Seagrove, daughters Veronica K. Barrett and husband Patrick of Clayton, NC, Monica S. Fruchtnicht and husband Kevin of Randleman, sons Jack P. Smith and wife Betty of Seagrove, Glen A. Smith and wife Kathy of Seagrove and James B. Smith and wife Michele of Randleman. Grandchildren Jack and Jessica Smith, Amanda Bowman, Louis and Ashley Smith, Gregory Wickersham, Matthew and Monica Erby, Jarred and Alex Fruchtnicht and Georgia Smith, seven great grandchildren and sister Juanita M. Hughey of High Point. The family will receive friends at the residence following the burial. Memorials may be made to Saint Joseph's Church Building Fund, 512 W. Wainman Avenue, Asheboro, NC 27203. The Family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks, gratitude and appreciation to the Staff at Hospice of Randolph County who provided wonderful care and support throughout this difficult time.
