Gladys Brown Nance

Gladys Maie Brown Nance, 88, of Asheboro, died Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Randolph Health in Asheboro. A private funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, which will be live streamed at www.Facebook.com/RidgeFuneralHome. Officiating will be Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery, Denton. Gladys was born on December 5, 1932, to Jesse and Nettie Brown in Pisgah, NC. She attended Seagrove High School. She married John Louey Nance on March 28, 1953. She was a member of Flag Springs Methodist Church and currently attended Crestview Wesleyan Church. She was a devout Christian who loved her family and many friends. She spent many years baby-sitting before moving to Oak Island in 1981. She enjoyed walking the beach and collecting seashells. Since moving back to Asheboro she loved being outdoors and walking. She was known to many as "Mom." In addition to being preceded in death by by her parents and husband, Mrs. Nance was also preceded by her sons, Douglas Louey Nance, Dewayne Lee Nance; grandchildren, Rhonda Suzette Woodell, Brian Lee Swart, Jamie Lee Moore, Larry Christopher Moore; sisters, Alene Martin, Jewel Lucas, Florence Kiser; brothers, Eddie Brown, Earl Brown, and Eugene Brown. She is survived by her sons, Morris Nance, Richard Nance (Linda), all of Denton; daughters, Delores Swart (Doug), Carol Langley (Barry), all of Denton; 11 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Pearl Goins of Asheboro; brothers, Raiford Brown of Asheboro, and Cline Brown of SC. Mrs. Nance will lie in state from 11:00 am to 12:30 PM, Wednesday, January 13, 2021, prior to the service at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to National Suicide Prevention, made payable to Vibrant Emotional Health and mail it to Attention: Development, 50 Broadway, Fl 19, New York, NY 10004; American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407; or your favorite charity.
