Gladys Swaney Hinshaw, 89, of Asheboro, died peacefully in the presence of Jesus Christ, reuniting with her lifetime companion and husband Paul R. Hinshaw, Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2024, at Holly Springs Friends Meeting Cemetery with Chaplain Bernie Raymond officiating. There will be a visitation following the service at the cemetery.
Gladys was born on February 27, 1935, in Randolph Co., the daughter of the late Henry Swaney and Sarah Garren Swaney. She graduated from Farmer High School in 1953. Gladys was the first female rural postal carrier in Randolph County and later retired from Black & Decker. She sang in the "Ladies Trio", taught Sunday School, and was active in many church functions at Rushwood Church for many years. Gladys loved singing in the choir and taught herself to play the piano. She loved flowers, gardening, canning and cooking, especially her persimmon pudding. Gladys worked hard, and was a devoted mother.
In addition to her husband, and her parents; Gladys was preceded in death by her brothers, Doc Swaney, Charles Swaney, Arthur Swaney, Ted Swaney, Jack Swaney; and her sister, Frances Swaney.
Gladys is survived by her sons, Randall R. Hinshaw and wife Connie of Weaverville, NC, Ken P. Hinshaw and wife Debbie of Denton; sisters, Bobbie Tysinger and husband Kenneth, Dorris Gordon and husband Jaffie; and brother, Donald Swaney and wife Bonnie.
