Gene E. Smith

Mr. Gene Edward Smith, 69, of Asheboro, NC, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Brian Center, Lexington. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Amity Hills Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Farmer Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Smith was born October 12, 1941. He was the son of the late Warren Edward Smith and Ida Kathleen Jones Smith. He was retired from B. B. Walker Shoe Company. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Thelma Hughes Smith, of the home; sister, Ann Smith and husband, John, of Raleigh, NC; brothers, Gary W. Smith and wife, Deborah, of Piney Creek, NC, Tim Smith, of Wilmington, NC; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home.
