Gene Cranford

Donald Eugene "Gene" Cranford, 81, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bruce Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph County, Mr. Cranford was born March 24, 1934 to the late Mack and Nora Cranford. He had been employed by L Ranch Shop and General Electric. He attended Good Samaritan Baptist Church. Mr. Cranford was an US Army Veteran having served from 1956-1959. He was an avid fisherman and loved his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cranford was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mae Cranford; five brothers, Marvin, Colon, Dempsey, Glenn and J.B.; and five sisters, Grace Sharpe, Hazel Harrelson, Thelma Reeder, Vennie Poindexter and Bertha Davis. Mr. Cranford is survived by his sons, Trona G. Cranford of the home, Terry Reeder and wife, Patty of Asheboro, Rev. Garry Reeder and wife, Debbie of Seagrove.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, prior to the service and other times at the home of Terry Reeder.
