Gary Wayne Caviness, 70, of Asheboro, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Bachelor and Pastor Willy Pickard officiating. A burial will be held at Tabernacle Church of Trinity Cemetery.
Gary was born on June 21, 1954, in Randolph County. He was the eldest son of the late Clarence Caviness and Emma Vickory Caviness.
Gary was a man of strong faith and practiced many acts of Christian service in his church and community. He volunteered for many leadership roles in his church, most notably serving as superintendent for many years. Furthermore, Gary was a man focused on family. He expressed many acts of love for those he held dearest, and he never failed to express his love and care for those who meant the most to him. He was a role model son, brother, husband, and father to his family, and he provided for them without fail. Moreover, Gary was a man of hard work. He passionately pursued his career as an electrician both as a small business owner and in industry, both at Energizer and Herbalife. He was a lifelong learner, and he would often read about new technology and electrical codes during his time away from work. He was also a lifelong mentor, and he encouraged many fellow colleagues to attain their own electrical licensing. He embodied the concept, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Throughout his life, Gary enjoyed many travel experiences and hobbies. He deeply loved the ocean, and he was an avid scuba diver.
It was his core values of faith, family, and hard work that prepared Gary for his battle with cancer. He remained steadfast in his Christian faith, held his family close, and faced many hospital stays, office visits, and treatments with the determination to overcome. When his battle came to an end, he was a role model of dignity and grace.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Faye Dean Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis B. Caviness; daughter, Natalie Caviness; sister, Sylvia C. Langley (Jimmy); brother, Paul R. Caviness (Betty); and his beloved cat, "Phoenix".
The family will receive friends 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., at Ridge Funeral Home prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Attn: Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, PO Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
