Garland Lee Johnson, 78, of Asheboro, died Saturday, July 5, 2025, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Foster Street Wesleyan Church where he attended, with Rev. Charles Moses and Rev. William Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
Garland was born on January 4, 1947, in Randolph County, the son of the late Arthur Johnson and Josie Cranford Johnson. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School, Class of 1965. Garland was formerly employed with Coca Cola of Asheboro, Stuart Furniture, Klaussner Furniture and later retired from Old Dominion Trucking. Garland was a decorated truck driver, never having a single accident in over 5,000,000 miles.
In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Freeman Johnson; sons, Brian Johnson and Chris Johnson.
Garland is survived by his son, Mark Johnson and wife Lori of Asheboro; sister, Shela Fields of Forest City, NC; grandchildren, Taylor Johnson Lucas and husband Chris of Asheboro, Austin Johnson and wife Makayla of High Point, Luke Johnson and wife Kasey of Mebane; great grandchildren, Reese Elizabeth Lucas and Wyatt Christopher Lucas.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m., Thursday, at Foster Street Wesleyan Church prior to the service, and other times at the home of Mark and Lori Johnson.
