Garland Brady

Mr. Garland Kiser Brady, 70, of Asheboro, NC, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Woodland Hill Care & Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Maple Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Carter and Pastor Jon Reece officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Brady was born January 3, 1942. He was the son of the late Isaac Walter Brady and Minnie Mae Kiser Brady. Mr. Brady worked at Walker Shoe Company for 46 years and then retired from McRea Shoes in Mt. Gilead. He was a coach for the City of Asheboro Parks and Recreation for 25 years. He was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church and attended Back Creek Friends Meeting. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during Vietnam. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed all outdoor activities, loved the Lord, and was a loving husband, father, and "papaw". In addition to his parents, Mr. Brady was preceded in death by his brothers, Mack Brady and Walter Ray Brady. Mr. Brady is survived by his wife, Sarah Brady, of the home; daughter, Sharon Dawn Brady, of Asheboro, NC; sisters, Sue Green, Ella Fagge, both of Asheboro, NC, Loucilla Chilton, of Ramseur, NC, Madar Garner, of Robbins, NC; brothers, Worth Brady and wife, Claudette, of Asheboro, NC, Lavan Brady and wife, Linda, of Seagrove, NC, Gale Brady and wife, Mildred, of Columbia, SC; "adopted" grandson, Jacob Patrick Zeigler, of Sanford, NC; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope House Group Home, c/o Blake Martin, 350 Pee Dee Avenue, Albemarle, NC 28001. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Woodland Hill, especially, Laura Meyers and Jamie Craven; and the staff of Hospice of Randolph County.
