Gale Freedman

July 22, 1943 — January 13, 2024

Gale Liane Freedman, 80, of Asheboro, NC, passed away peacefully at the The Randolph Hospice House on Saturday, January 12. The loss of this vibrant, brilliant woman will be sorely felt by her church community and loved ones.

Gale was born in San Antonio, TX, and attended Southern Methodist University where she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree just after turning 19. She followed many varied career paths in her lifetime; including working for the federal government, various customer service positions, sales, and more. Her interests were broad and her “to do” lists featured tasks such as practicing her Spanish, reading Hebrew, studying mathematics, and trying new recipes and exercises. In 2010 Gale received certification as a professional coder apprentice, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to learning and practicing new skills.

A fierce advocate for human rights, Gale was proud to be a member of the ACLU and ‘gently’ advising friends on politics was among her favorite things to do.

She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, where she sang in the Chancel Choir, attended Bible study and the pageturners book club, and volunteered her talent with crochet.

Gale is preceded in death by her parents, Marjorie and Harry Freedman and cousin, Marshall Sideman of TX. She is survived by her cousin, Marshall Cooper (Shelia) and his son, Mark of Dallas, TX; longtime friend, Katherine Scott of Asheboro; and daughters-in-heart Amy Phillips of Hickory, and Julie Hayworth-Perman (Bob) of Holly Springs, as well as grandchildren-in-heart, Luke and Kate Perman. She also leaves behind the greatest of friends, the Ladies who Lunch: Helen Shore, Karen Smith (Matthew), and Leslie Yow (Ray), all of Asheboro.

A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. A gathering of friends will follow the service in the church parlor to share memories and light refreshments - all who knew her are invited to participate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Randolph, First United Methodist Church, or Lydia’s Place, all in Asheboro.

Gale’s loved ones wish to personally thank the staff at Hospice of Randolph for their loving care of Gale and her friends during a difficult time. To Ellen, the other Gale, all of the Sherries, Meredith, Sheniqua, Diane, Gene, Noah, Misty, Jennifer, Heather, the nice man who tried to fix the squeaky bed, and all of the names that we have missed - God bless you and thank you.
