Fred Beane

Mr. Robert Fred Beane, 91, of Seagrove, NC, went on to his heavenly reward on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Union Grove Baptist Church in Seagrove, with Dr. Ron Chaney, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Fred was born on July 18, 1923 in Montgomery County, NC, the second son of Albert Rankin Beane and Clara Ester Hurley Beane. As a child, he moved with his family to the Westmore area of Moore County. He attended Piney Grove School, Moody School and Star School. He later resided in Franklinville, NC and then moved back to Moore County later in life. Fred retired from Klopman Mills, where he worked as head loom fixer for many years Fred attended Union Grove Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He was probably best known through the years as Seagrove's oldest potter. He was owner and master potter of Old House Pottery and was one of the original potters from the 70's. Fred was an apprentice to Jim Teague, potter, beginning at the age of 12. Fred was featured on Fox 8 "Roy's Folks". He was recognized as potter of the year in 1992 and was the featured potter at the Seagrove Pottery Festival in 2003, at the age of 80. Fred loved people and loved to talk to people. He enjoyed life to the fullest and stayed active until the last year his health prevented. Fred always found the good in every situation and never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur, Lacy, Brewster, and a brother and sister, Etta and Edgar, who died in infancy, and a niece, Fonda VonCannon. Fred is survived by his sons, Darrell Beane and wife, Leah, of Franklinville, Mitchell Beane, of Asheboro; sister, Vivian VonCannon, of Archdale; sisters-in-law, Gladys Beane and Ruby Beane, both of Seagrove; grandson, Keith Beane and wife, Annette, of Franklinville; granddaughter, Lisa Allen and husband Ricky, of Ramseur; great granddaughter, Kyndra Beane; and many nieces and nephews. His nephews, Jimmy Beane, Jackie Beane, Jerry Beane, Ted Beane, Tommy Beane, Ronnie Beane, Doyle Beane, Charles Beane and Gary VonCannon, will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday, October 3, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Grove Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 7912 Union Grove Church Road, Seagrove, NC 27341. His nephews, Jimmy Beane, Jackie Beane, Jerry Beane, Ted Beane, Tommy Beane, Ronnie Beane, Doyle Beane, Charles Beane and Gary VonCannon, will serve as pallbearers.
