Frank Clifford Kersey

Mr. Frank Clifford Kersey, 75, of Star, NC, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at his residence. A graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Monday, October 3, 2011, at Randolph Memorial Park with Rev. James Hamilton officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Guilford County, NC, Mr. Kersey was born March 24, 1936. He was the son of the late Henry Clifford Kersey and Jewell Esther York Kersey. He was a member of Old Union Methodist Church, a graduate of Randleman High School and Guilford College. He retired from Clayson Knitting Company as Vice President of Manufacturing. Mr. Kersey was the Mayor of Star for 20 years. He was a member of the Biscoe Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, 32nd Degree Mason, the Oasis Temple Shrine, the National Knife Collectors, and the American Rose Society. He was a past president of the Star Rotary Club and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation. He was past chairman of the Montgomery County Planning Board, the Montgomery County Board of Social Services, the Board of Trustees for Montgomery Community College, and the Board of Trustees at Montgomery Memorial Hospital. Mr. Kersey was listed in the 1992/1993 Platinum Edition of the Who's Who Registry and was the 1992 Radio Station WJRM Montgomery County Man of the Year. Mr. Kersey served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joan McElhannon Kersey. Mr. Kersey is survived by his fiancée, Miriam Holt, of Troy; nieces, Millie McElhannon Simmons and husband, George, of High Point, NC, Bonnie McElhannon King, of Trinity, NC, Martha Kersey Reier and husband, Matthew, of Concord, NC, Jewell Gay Kersey, of Roaring River, NC; nephew, Rocky McElhannon and wife, Mary, of Charlotte, NC; and several great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm Monday, October 3, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery Community College Foundation, 1011 Page Street, Troy, NC 27371.
