Frank Matthew Johnson, 93, of Asheboro, died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Woodland Hill Center in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at High Pine Wesleyan Church with Rev. Todd Leach and Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born December 18, 1922 in Guilford County, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Jesse and Lillie Smith Johnson. He attended High Pine Wesleyan Church. Mr. Johnson retired from Guilford Mills and later went back to work at Ultra-Mek in Denton. He served in the US Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his daughter, Carol Pegram and husband, Roger of Greensboro; sons, Jack Johnson and wife, Cindy of Madison, Gene Johnson of Holden Beach, and Larry Johnson of McLeansville; stepson, Gordon Hoover and wife, Myra of Asheboro; sister, Minnie Steele of Tampa, FL; brother, Bill Johnson and wife, Frances of McLeansville; eight grandchildren, including Zack and Nathan Hoover; and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Claira Hoover. The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., Wednesday at High Pine Wesleyan Church, prior to the service.
