Frances Underwood

Mrs. Frances Underwood, 83, of Denton, died Friday, June 19, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 22, 2015, in the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Stines officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery. A native of Pike County, KY, Ms. Underwood was born on February 16, 1932, to the late Keith and Bessie Runyon Underwood. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. She was very proud of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ms. Underwood was preceded in death by her son, Keith Sturgis. Surviving are her daughters, Joyce Rife and husband, Earl, of Asheboro, Cheryl Lawrence, of Kankakee, IL, Brenda McDowell and husband, Dallas, of the home; sons, Jack Sturgis, of Sophia, Ralph Sturgis and wife, Sharon, of Brooksville, FL; brother, Douglas Bostic, of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, David Sturgis, Jennifer Sturgis, Jason Rife, Richard Sturgis, Josh Rife, Frankie Lawrence, Jennifer Sturgis, Jessica Sturgis, Marcus Harmon, Kristen McDowell, Tommy McDowell; eight great-grandchildren; and beloved bird and cat, Buttercup and Miracle. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday,June 21, 2015 at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro.
