Frances Irene Poe

Mrs. Frances Irene Barnes Poe, 91, of Asheboro, NC, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at her home. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. A native of Guilford County, NC, Mrs. Poe was born June 5, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Snow Barnes and Sarah Flossie Frazier Barnes. She was the former owner and director of Asheboro Nursery School, which she started in 1947 and was the first nursery school in Asheboro. She later worked as a CNA at Randolph Hospital. She was a devout Christian and a member of Central Wesleyan Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poe was preceded in death by her sister, Cleo Bost, and her brothers, Arnold Barnes, Clayton Barnes and Leo Barnes. Mrs. Poe is survived by her daughters, Patricia Swistowski, of Asheboro, NC, Betty Jean Ritter and husband, Lacy, of Robbins, NC; son, V. E. Poe, Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Asheboro, NC; sister, Iris Stockner, of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Darlene Gilliand and husband, Roy, Susan Thompson, Christine Overby and husband, Richard, Lacy Ritter and wife, Linda, Sonia Ritter, Theresa Barnes and husband, Robert; nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home following the memorial service and other times at the home of her granddaughter, 1952 Southlake Drive, Asheboro, NC.
