Eugene Barber Hicks

Mr. Eugene Barber Hicks, 80, of Asheboro, NC, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Randolph Hospice House. A memorial service is scheduled for 6:30 pm Friday, July 8, 2011, at St John's Lutheran Church with Rev. O. Ralph Kraft, Jr. officiating. A native of Cook County, IL, Mr. Hicks was born April 5, 1931. He was the son of the late Paul Eugene Hicks and Martha Caroline Barber Hicks. He retired as the Electronics Department Head of Randolph Community College, where he enjoyed teaching. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and he served in the US Navy obtaining the rank of Lieutenant (JG). He was also an avid astronomer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Ann Black. Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Wanda Hicks, of the home; daughter, Susan Hicks Wong and husband, Gerald, of Trinity; sons, Peter Eugene Hicks, of Wilmington, John David Hicks, of Asheboro, William Brantley Hicks, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Laini Hicks and Ian Hicks. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church fellowship hall.
