Surrounded by family and friends, Etta Lillian Owens Bray went peacefully home to be with her Lord on January 1, 2012. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday January 4th, 2012 at Sunset Avenue Church of God with Reverend Boyd Byerly, Reverend Paul Griffin and her special nephew Micah McDowell officiating. Pallbearers are her nephews Charles Hammer, J C Hammer, Allen Elkes, Mike Hemric, Greg Burleson, and Matthew McDowell. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua McDowell and Jacob McDowell. She was born January 28, 1920 in Stokes County to John Robert and Josie Fain Owens. On April 8th , 1939 she married the love of her life Robert "Lee"� Bray who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters Irene Owens, Della Hammer, Earline Elkes, two brothers John Robert Owens Jr. and Elmer Owens. For a big portion of their married life they lived in Hampton Virginia, moving to North Carolina in 1988. She was a homemaker for most of her life and was best known for her awesome breakfast. She was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend and will be truly missed by all of us that loved her. She is survived by her niece and caretaker Anna Marie Owens (Calvin Burnette), beloved sister-in-law and neighbor Lera McDowell Owens, sisters Dot McDowell, Ruth Burleson, Mildred Hemric and one brother John Dennis Owens, special nieces Vickie Farlow, Phyllis Katona and Patricia Farlow along with other nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:30 to 2:00 at Sunset Avenue Church of God prior to the funeral and at other times at her home at 707 Chesapeake Lane in Archdale North Carolina. While living in Virginia she was a faithful member of Parkview Church of God, 1116 Briarfield Road Newport News Virigina 23662. After moving to North Carolina she became a member of Sunset Avenue Church of God, 900 Sunset Avenue Asheboro North Carolina 27203 and most recently attended Mount Olive Wesleyan Church 3290 Mount Olive Church Road, Sophia North Carolina 27350. Memorials may be directed to the churches listed above. A special thanks to all her neighbors and friends at Liberty Square Townhouse Community for their love, support and for the times they "lifted her up when she was down"�.
