Esther Voncannon Ward, 101, of Asheboro, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Hopewell Friends Meeting with Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. Born April 7, 1917 in Stanly County, Mrs. Ward was the daughter of the late James Walter and Ada Wagoner Voncannon. She was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Mrs. Ward loved birds and and loved to travel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William Harry Brim, Obie Oscar Mitchell and William Victor Ward; stepdaughter, Margie Brim Anderson and her husband, William T. Anderson; daughter, Doris Brim Luffman and her husband, John (J.C.) Luffman. Survivors include her daughter, Betty Brim Rich (Frank) of McCleansville; son, Leon Edward Mitchell of Asheboro; grandchildren, Lisa Oldham (Virgil), Bryan D. Luffman (Monica), Joel Luffman (Angie), all of Asheboro, Matthew Cockman (Melissa) of Colorado, Christina Raye of California, Mark Cockman (Stacey) of Greensboro, Morgan Owen Mitchell of Florida; 22 great-grandchildren, Joshua Luffman, Amber LeBarre, Amy Armfield, Tiffany Burroughs, Brandon Luffman, Adam Elliott, John Luffman, Kimberly Jarrell, Jason Cockman, Michele Cockman, Meridith Cockman, Katie Cockman, Joshua Cockman, McKinlee Cockman, Grayson Rice, Holden Rice, Bradley Luffman, Karen Sandridge, Johnny Rich, Melissa Sells, Christopher Oldham, Alec Mitchell; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of Lisa and Virgil Oldham.
