Erman Clay "Bill" Trotter, 80, of Asheboro, died Saturday, February 18, 2017 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro, after several months of declining health. A native of Randolph County, Bill was born August 21, 1936, the son of the late Sylvester and Pearl Trotter. He was the former co-owner of Hardwood Frames in Thomasville and enjoyed antique car restoration. Mr. Trotter served in the 1st Special Operations Wing as a member of the 4400 Combat Crew Training Squadron and was sent to Vietnam in April of 1962 as a Military Advisor and Combat Soldier under operation "Jungle Jim." He received the following awards and commendations: Good Conduct Medal, Special Operations Group, Special Air War Center, Longevity Service Award, Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Odell Trotter and Evelyn Cole. He is survived by his siblings, J.V. Trotter, Charles Trotter, Hazel Lois Byrum and husband George, Eunice Crotts and husband Frank; sons, Clay Trotter and wife Debbie, Kevin Trotter and wife Donna, Dale Trotter, Richard Trotter; daughters, Whitney Harris and husband Jeff, Cathy Henley and husband Jeff; 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2016, at Ridge Funeral Home.
