Elwood Funk

Earnest Elwood Funk, 86, of Asheboro, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Mountain View Church of Asheboro, where he was a member, with Rev. Clint Kearns officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Grayson Co., VA, Mr. Funk was born December 3, 1936, the son of the late Oscar Raymond and Durcy Grace Perry Funk. He was a surveyor with Clotus Craven when first moved to NC from Va. He had worked at B.B. Walker Shoe Co., and retired from Energizer. He also had managed all of the Dixie Burger Kings. Mr. Funk loved playing golf, his nickname was "5-Wood Funk" and managed the Uhwarrie Golf Club. He also loved spending time with his buddies at the Asheboro Municipal Golf Course, and was an avid bowler. Up until his 80's, Mr. Funk enjoyed delivering cars for Asheboro Nissan and Asheboro Honda.

Mr. Funk loved his family deeply. He faithfully supported his children and grandchildren in all of their sporting and other events.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Funk was preceded in death by his grandchild, Sheena Ann.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley T. Funk of the home; daughters, Deborah F. Hughes and husband Roger of Asheboro, Lisa F. Caviness and husband Ward of Robbins, NC; sons, Johnny Elwood Funk of Ramseur, Thomas Wayne Funk and wife Reta of Asheboro; sister, Norma Carol Shaw of Galax, VA; grandchildren, Derek Wayne Funk and wife Brittney and their children, Randi and Ryleigh, Brandon Hughes and wife Sigal Govrin, Dillon Caviness and significant other, Makenzie Edwards and son, Easton, Jonah Caviness and wife Chesney, Heather Joyce and son, Cayden.

The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., on Monday and other times at the home.
