Ellen Maria Deaton Wantuch, 58, of Sophia, died Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at High Point Medical Center in High Point. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Dr. David Speering officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m., prior to the service at the church. The family will be leaving the church at 3:30 p.m. for a private graveside service at New Hope Memorial Gardens. Ellen was born on October 21, 1961, in Montgomery Co., to the late Roy Tilden Deaton and Iris Pauline Spivey Deaton. She was a graduate of UNC-G and Appalachian State University, and taught in NC Schools for 24 years, retiring earlier this year. Surviving are her husband Kenneth Wantuch of the home; step daughter, Holly Wantuch; son, Andrew Wantuch; sisters, Marlene Tatum and husband Phil of Denver, NC, Susan Lane and husband David of Charlotte; brothers, Terry Deaton and wife Louise of Colorado Springs, John Deaton of Asheboro, Michael Deaton and wife Tricia of Asheboro, Rick Deaton and wife Becky of Houston; 6 nieces and nephews; 7 great nieces and great nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church at 420 W Walker Ave, Asheboro, NC, 27205, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
