Elaine Clay Stafford, 81, of Asheboro, died Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2019, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Doug Hefner officiating. Entombment will be private at Randolph Memorial Park. Born in Henderson, NC on June 29, 1937, Elaine was the daughter of the late Franklin "Frank" Clay and Grace Rhyne Clay. She graduated from High Point Central High School and from GTCC. She also received her B.S. in Sociology from Guilford College. She was retired from Asheboro Dermatology and was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church for 55 years, where she served in many capacities. In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Albert "Al" Stafford, her brother, Raynard Clay, and son-in-law, John Church. Surviving are her daughters, Connie Wilson (David), Vicky Church Russell (Greg), Kelly Bohlen (Todd) all of Asheboro; grandchildren, Brad Wilson of Asheboro, Stephanie Jeffcoat (Chris) of West Columbia, SC, Derek Church (Brittany) of Clemmons, Julie Luther (Tiffany) of Jacksonville, Tyler Bohlen and Caroline Bohlen of Asheboro; great grandchildren, Hunter Wilson, Harper Jeffcoat, Noah Jeffcoat; and lifelong friend, Marilyn DeStigter of Sioux City, IA. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m., Sunday, prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Altar Guild, 505 S. Park Street, Asheboro, NC 27205; or to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the residents, nurses and staff at Cross Road Retirement Community and to Hospice of Randolph County for all the love and care given to Elaine.
