Mr. Edward Harrell King, age 87, of 2194 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Russell's Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Fonner and the Honorable Judge Darl Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born on May 15, 1923 in Randolph County, Mr. King was the son of the late William and Ada King. He retired from General Electric after 28 years of service. He was an active member of Russell's Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and song leader for several years. He served in the US Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by his sisters, Lydia Jane Hudson, Callie Cockman and his brothers, Ervin King, Jesse King, Robert King and William King. Surviving are his wife, Zelma Lanier King, of the home; daughters, Carolyn King Wooley and husband, Paul, Marie King Callicutt and husband, Gary, all of Asheboro, Treva King McKenzie and husband, Tommy, of Vass; grandchildren, Kendra Wooley Cranford and husband, Bill, Travis McKenzie and wife, Carla, Gina Callicutt Grant and husband, Joshua, Elizabeth Wooley, Tracy Callicutt Johnson and husband, Derrick, Tiffany McKenzie Kramer and husband, Ryan; great grandchildren, Isaac Johnson, Eli Johnson and Caleb Grant. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 12, 2010, and other times at the home.
