Edith Ragsdale Kinney, 99, of Asheboro, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Sunset Avenue Church of God with Rev. Boyd Byerly officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Oaklawn. Mrs. Kinney was born June 12, 1918 to William Harris and Blanche Dawkins Ragsdale. She was formerly employed at Randolph Mills in Franklinville, and later operated a catering service for many years with weddings and birthday cakes. She was known as the "cake lady." In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Kinney; brother, Charlie Ragsdale; sisters, Mary Curtis, Jewel Shane, and Irene Murray. She is survived by her sister, Viola Beane; sons, Raymond Kinney and wife Betsy, of Asheboro, Astor Kinney and wife Brenda, of Pleasant Garden; grandchildren, Stephen Kinney and wife Kim, Meredith Biddy, Roger Myers and wife Margot, Jeffrey Kinney of Milford, CT; special friends, Jorge Aldana and Bill Burgess of CT, Bill and Martha Heard of Huntsville, AL, Jason and Renia Conte of Salisbury; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Universal Health Care of Ramseur and Hospice of Randolph for their extraordinary care.
