E. John Elmore, 71, of Burlington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 25, 2023.
Graveside services will be conducted 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Alamance Memorial Park.
Born May 18, 1952, in Alamance Co., NC, Mr. Elmore was the son of the late Ernest and Dorothy Campbell Elmore. He was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church, Burlington. He had degree in Shopping Center Marketing from the University of Michigan and spent most of his career as a commercial property district manager for JMB Urban Shopping Center, Chicago, Il. He also held a commercial real estate license and served as past NC Operations chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers. Mr. Elmore was also the former owner of Midway Furniture Mattress Co., Burlington.
E. John, as many members refered to him, devoted much of his time to DeMolay International serving as Past Grand Master, 1997, Past President DeMolay Foundation, Kansas City, MO, and Honorary Past State Master Councilor, Virginia. He was also a member of various Masonic memberships including 33rd degree Scottish Rite member, Southern Jurisdiction, Washington, DC.
John had a love for antiques and pottery and lined his home with beautiful pieces and collectibles. John assisted many with appraisals and estate sales and was an expert in these areas. He enjoyed them so much that he started the Carolina Heirloom Appraisal Service, and was a member of the NC Pottery Collectors Guild, NC Museum of History Associates, and NC Pottery Museum, Seagrove, NC.
John was a connoisseur of fine dining. He enjoyed especially the Angus Barn in Raleigh, the Washington Duke hotel in Durham, the Carolina Club in Chapel Hill, Magnolia 23 in Asheboro, Miss Lacey’s Magnolia House in Sanford, Lucky 32 in Greensboro and many others.
After retiring John spent much of his time visiting Williamsburg, VA, and became a member of D.A.R. Goodwin Society and the Friends of Colonial Williamsburg.
He had also served on the Burlington/Graham ABC Board, Past President of the Alamance County Young Democrats, member of the UNC Alumni Association, and past crew member of The Old Rebel Show on WFMY TV in Greensboro.
John was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brother, and his best friend of 18 years, his Boston Terrier Jaxx.
Survivors include one nephew and numerous cousins.
