Ms. Dorothy Jane Reed Smith, 89 of Asheboro, NC passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro following complications subsequent to elective surgery. Pursuant to the prior request of Ms. Smith, Private Services will be conducted in Asheboro, with Chaplin Tim Pheagin officiating. Dorothy Jane was born on August 28th, 1928 and was the daughter of the late James and Mary Reed. She was a homemaker for most of her life. She served on numerous school and church committees and was very involved in the Cub Scout Program in the Boy Scouts of America when she was a young mother. She was employed in several positions such as; Retail Fashion Display Designer, School Nurse and Executive Secretary. She was a member of the West Bend United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. Dorothy Jane loved being with her family, enjoyed dancing and being with friends. She was an avid Duke University Basketball Fan and rarely missed a televised game. She enjoyed growing flowers and watching the bloom of wild flowers and the Dogwoods every Spring. She was very fond of animals and especially loved observing and feeding her favorite bird - the Carolina Cardinal. In addition to her parents, several brothers and sisters, she was proceeded in death by her husband of 66 years, Frederick Carlyle "Carlie" Smith. Ms. Smith is survived by her daughter, Kim Smith-Nagel, and husband Peter of Asheboro, sons, Stephen Smith and wife, Kim of Orlando Florida, Mark Smith and wife Lea of San Antonio, TX, grandchildren, Leslie Shevlin and husband, Tim of Salem, OR, Mallory Richards and husband, Jo of Washington, DC, Devon Smith and Zachary Smith, both of San Antonio, TX and Dorothy Janes beloved canine companion, Mandy/Pookey.
