Dorothy Newsom Cooper

Dorothy Marie Newsom Cooper, 85, of Asheboro, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March, 6, 2019, at Grace Baptist Temple, where she was a member, with Pastor Marc Meyers officiating. Burial will follow at Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born on December 19, 1933, in Randolph County, NC, Mrs. Cooper was the daughter of the late Nicholas Longworth Newsom and Mary Ellen Woodell Newsom. She was a homemaker, artist and was retired from Eveready Battery. She loved reading the Bible, quilting, working in her flowers and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her son, Brian Cooper; and brothers, Norman Newsom, Bryce Newsom and Huey Newsom. Surviving are her husband, Neal Dalton Cooper, of the home; daughter, Jeannie Cooper Callicutt (Robert), of Asheboro; sons, Kenneth N. Cooper, Perry R. Cooper (Kathy), Craig J. Cooper, all of Asheboro; daughter-in-law, Brenda Cooper, of Asheboro; grandchildren, Susan C. McDuffie (Jeff), Perry Riley Cooper, Jr. (Angela), Timmy Cooper (Amanda), Lori Blackwelder (Rick); great grandchildren, Jordan McDuffie, Lathe McDuffie, Reilly McDuffie, Caiden McDuffie, Lauren Cooper, Dalton Cooper, Abigail Cooper, Elizabeth Cooper, Neal Cooper, Alex Cooper, Lena Godfrey, and baby Briann arriving in April; four nieces and two nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
