Doris Jean "Jeannie" Brown Smith, 88, of Denton, NC passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026 Surrounded by her family. Doris entered into the arms of her Lord and savior where she will have eternal peace.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026 at Balfour Baptist Church, 1643 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC with Pastor Mark Wilburn and Rev. Gary Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:45 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery in Denton.


Doris was born on April 28, 1938 in Moore county. She was the daughter of the late Curtis and Rona Brown. She attended Robbins Elementary School and graduated from Elise High School in Robbins, NC. She retired from Randolph Community College as the food services manager after 24 years of employment.


Doris was a wonderful wife of 64 years, a loving mother of four boys, a grandmother to seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her and was referred to by many as "Mom Doris".


Doris loved to travel and visited 48 states including Alaska and Hawaii. She loved working in her flowers, reading and word puzzles. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and she loved decorating for all occasions especially at Christmas. She loved spending time with family, friends, and her wonderful neighbors. She loved her church and church family at Balfour Baptist Church where she was a member.


In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded by her son, Mark Smith, and brothers Michael Brown, Edward Brown, and David Brown.


Doris is survived by her husband, Jay H. Smith, Jr.; sons, Harris Smith (Tammy), Rodney Smith (Donna), Andy Smith (Nita); daughter in law, Dawn Baker; Grandchildren, Jessica Glenn (Doug), Josh Smith, Dallas Smith, Bridgette Martin (Chad), Christian Smith (Christine), Rebecca Smith De Hernandez (Abe), Evan Smith; great grandchildren, Stephen, Kalin, Kenna, Colton, Rita, Luke, Elijah, Judah, Ayden, and Harper; Sisters, Nell Gaines (Danny), Judy Upchurch (Robert), Barbara Morgan; and sister in law, Kathleen Brown.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Balfour Baptist Church, Honduras Mission Fund, 1642 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
