Doris Parks Hughes, 90, of Asheboro, NC, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Randolph Health.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Pastor Monty Barker officiating. The service will be livestreamed on Mrs. Hughes' webpage at www.ridgefuneralhome.com. Burial will follow at New Hope Memorial Gardens.
Born April 26, 1933, in Galax, VA, Doris was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Thelma Leonard Parks. She was retired from GE / Black & Decker and was a member of Word of Faith Ministries.
Doris came from a musically gifted family. She loved singing and playing the guitar and piano. When Doris was 14 years old she and her sister Betty sang on WBOB radio station in Galax, VA, and also recorded several albums. Her musical talents were passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. While living in Baltimore, MD, during the early 1950s, Doris worked for the Martin Aircraft Company. Doris enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles, traveling, riding bikes with her daughters, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Doris was a woman of faith. The Lord was an integral part of her life, and she served him with her whole heart. Her strength and commitment to her beliefs were an inspiration to those who knew her.
Doris will be deeply missed. Her warmth and love will forever remain in our hearts. Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and faith will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hughes, her daughters, Jackie Loflin and Sharon Sides, and her siblings, Betty Parks Easter, Christine Parks Simmons, and Bob Parks.
Survivors include her daughters, Annette Nash (Scott) of Asheboro, Jeanne Swaney (Jimmy) of Asheboro; brother, Gray Parks of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Michele Loflin-Uhl, Davey Loflin, Regina Shaw, January Williamson, Clark Sides, Megan Gribble, Sarah Johnston; and 15 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Friday, at Ridge Funeral Home prior to the service and after the service at the home of Annette and Scott Nash.
