Dorcas M. Cranford

Mrs. Dorcas Mazelle Cranford, 83, of Denton, NC, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Woodland Hills Care & Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Canaan United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Davidson County, NC, Mrs. Cranford was born August 13, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Walter Crone Martin and Lola Bell Surratt Martin. She was retired from Black & Decker. Mrs. Cranford was a member of Canaan United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. She was a marvelous cook who was known far and wide for her cakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus J. Cranford, and her brothers, Walter Martin, Jr., John Lloyd Martin and Wilbur Martin. Mrs. Cranford is survived by son, Marty Cranford, of Denton, NC; sisters, Pat Martin Day, of Wilkesboro, NC, Jane Martin Baldwin, of Denton, NC, Barbara Martin Hopkins, of Denton, NC; brother, Dwight G. Martin, of Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Canaan United Methodist Church and other times at the home of Levon and Barbara Hopkins of Denton, NC.
