Dora Marie "Maw Maw" Charles, 85, of Asheboro, NC, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Chapman's Mortuary Chapel, Huntington, WV. Officiating will be Pastor Tom Barton. Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park, Milton, WV. A native of Verdunville, WV, Mrs. Charles was born June 28, 1929, the daughter of the late Burton and Verda Ratliff Jones. She was a member of the 18th Street United Baptist Church in Huntington where she was active with the youth, a Sunday school teacher and a piano player. She had worked as an executive assistant at Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Huntington, WV. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Charles was preceded in death by her husband, Orion "OD" Charles, daughters, Susan Charles, Darlene Charles, son, Terry Charles, sisters, Pauline Reed, Rachel Smith, brother, Eldon Jones, and grandson, Brett Workman. Mrs. Charles is survived by her sons, Doug Charles (Janie), of Scottown, OH, John Charles, of Huntington, WV, daughters, Connie Barton (Tom), of Asheboro, NC, Mona Workman (John), of Taylorsville, NC, sisters, Joyce Ruble, Marylene LeFurgy (Norman), brothers, Walter "Johnny" Jones (Charlene), Dale Jones, twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and many others that called her "Maw Maw." The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, NC, and again from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2014, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, WV.
