Disie M. Smith

Mrs. Disie Elizabeth Mabe Smith, 94, of Thomasville, NC, died Monday, August 8, 2011, at the home of her daughter. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Sunset Avenue Church of God with Rev. Michael Stoltzfus officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. A native of Lawsonville, NC, Mrs. Smith was born July 26, 1917. She was the daughter of the late James and Etta Mabe. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She served the Lord faithfully and was a member of Sunset Avenue Church of God since 1972. Her family was a very important part of her life! Her main interest was spending time with them along with cooking and gardening. Disie married Otis Smith November 9, 1935. They were happily married hand in hand for 73 years until his death. She was also preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Richard Gordon and Ricky Burns, and grandson, Randy Parrish. Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Kathleen Gordon, Lewis Smith and wife Lorraine, Judy Lineberry and husband, Wayne, Pamela Burns; grandchildren, Michele Walker, Farrell Smith and wife, Becky, Steve Smith and wife, Tammy, Russell Burns and wife, Shannon, Caleb Burns and fiancée, Jessie Martin; sister, May Mabe; brothers, Denny Mabe and wife, Peggy, Dewey Mabe and wife, Lucy, 10 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Sunset Avenue Church of God, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice Foundation, 3124 Zebulon Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
