Devereaux Russell, 81, of Asheboro, died Monday, January 16, 2017 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Center United Methodist Church in Troy. Born May 17, 1935 in Montgomery County, Mr. Russell was the son of the late Cled and Georgia Harris Russell. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church in Troy. Mr. Russell was a skilled custom furniture craftsman, former owner of Farmer Station and had worked for Union Carbide. He was a artillerymen in the U.S. Army. His grandson, Colton always brought a smile to his Pawpaw's face and he will be remembered as the "Candyman". Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Virginia Varner Russell of the home; son, John William Russell and wife, Cathy of Asheboro; grandson, Colton William Russell; brothers, Billy Russell and wife, Bobbi of Thomasville, John Leonard Russell and wife, Marcella of Swartz Creek, MI. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, prior to the serivce. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
