Derek Church

Derek Ray Church, 26, of Randleman, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alvin Powell officiating. Derek was born September 17, 1990 in Durham County. He was a graduate of Randleman High School and was formerly employed with Hughes Furniture. Derek was a amazing father, he had a kind heart and was willing to give the shirt off his back to help others. He was loved and will be missed by many. Derek is preceded in death by his father, Dexter Ray Church; and paternal grandfather, Raymond Church. Derek is survived by his wife, Shannon Church of Randleman; daughter, Kenzi Church of Randleman; stepson, Austin Cooke of Randleman; mother, Deanna Smith of Randleman; sisters, Felcia (Nikki) Sopher and husband, Benjamin of Harper Height, TX, Brittney Johnson and husband, Ryan of Randleman, Sydney Bullins and husband, Bryan of Lexington; maternal grandmother, Judy Smith of Randleman; maternal grandfather, Jerry Smith and wife, Joann of Swansboro; paternal grandmother, Doris Tucker of Asheboro; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, prior to the service and other times at the home of his grandmother, Judy Smith.
