Dempsey Wayne Craven, age 87, of Asheboro, NC, died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro after a long illness. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Randolph Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Gardner and Rev. David Millikan officiating. Born in Randolph County, NC on February 15, 1930, Dempsey was the son of the late Claud and Mary Craven. He was employed by Flav-o-Rich Dairy for 42 years. He was a lifelong Quaker and a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting. In addition to his parents, Dempsey was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray, Exton, Seth, Clotus, and Hollis Craven; and his sisters, Edyth Craven and Sadie C. Swing. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca M. Craven; daughters, Tina C. Land (Eric), Dianne C. Gardner (Bill); grandchildren, Miranda J. Land (Mel), Anita L. Sheeler (Devin), Lane Gardner (Jamie); great granddaughter, Levy E. Sheeler; brother, Garrett Craven; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Asheboro Friends Meeting, 230 E. Kivett Street, Asheboro, NC 27203. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Grace Painter from Earth Angels, the caregivers at Carillion Assisted Living and Hospice of Randolph for the care given to Dempsey.
