Delis Castillo was born in Peru in April 23, 1926. She died on August 7, 2024, at the Hospice of Randolph after suffering a debilitating disease.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Father Philip Kollithanath officiating.
She lost her parents at an early age and was raised by her auntie Paula, who was her mother’s twin. In her 20's Delis met her husband, Aldo Castillo, who worked as an accountant for an American mining company. Aldo and Delis had two children, Aldo Jr. and Carlos. They all migrated to the US in 1973.
She returned to Peru from 1985 to 1990 to serve as chief of protocol for President Alan Garcia’s staff. There she got involved in women’s equality, traveled overseas to represent Peru, and got involved in humanitarian causes.
Delis was a devoted Catholic, and one of his fondest memories was meeting Pope John Paul II in 1988 when he visited the Peruvian Congress. She returned to San Francisco with her husband, who then worked as a US postman. Delis loved poetry, literature and tango dancing. She came to North Carolina in 2020, the year of the pandemic, to be with her son.
Delis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Aldo, and son Carlos.
She is survived by her son Aldo, Jr., her daughter in law Lesya, and her grandson Ross.
