Mr. Carroll Dean Brooks, 82, of Asheboro, NC, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Randolph Hospital. A graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Brooks was born January 27, 1932. He was originally from Hickory, NC and had resided in Asheboro for the last 25 years. He was the son of the late Forest Ervin Brooks and Blanche Peeler Brooks. He worked at Central Telephone and retired from Centel with 37 years of service. Mr. Brooks served in the US Army, serving during the Korean War. Dean loved fishing and he was inarguably the best "crappie" fisherman in the state. Second to fishing, he was an avid golfer. He was well known as "Pops" at the Asheboro County Club, where he worked in the pro shop after retirement. Dean loved his family and friends and he will truly be missed. Mr. Brooks is survived by his loving wife, Linda Brown Brooks, of the home; daughters, Debbie Brooks Evans and husband, Mickey, of Connelly Springs, NC, Tammy Leigh Brooks, of Hickory, NC; brothers, Hubert Brooks and wife, Betty, Joe Brooks and wife, Betty, all of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Ashley Williams and husband, Lacy, Kris Evans, Kyle Evans and wife, Crystal; great grandchildren, Savannah Williams, Logan Williams, Kaylee Evans; and special K-9 companion, "Heidi." The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home.
