David L. Williams

David L Williams, 89, a native of Asheboro, NC went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at High Point Regional Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, April 7, 2011, at West Asheboro Church of God with the Rev. Matt Gunter and Dr. Thurman Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Asheboro. Mr. Williams was born April 21, 1921. He was a graduate of Farmer High School and a retiree of Sears & Roebuck where he worked as a service technician. He was a charter member of the West Asheboro Church of God. He loved reading his Bible and was an avid Bible scholar, which was exemplified through his Christian faith. He would write down his thoughts and inspirations and shared them with his family and friends. He was a kind-hearted man and would be moved to tears when talking about the Bible, his family and his country. He was a patriotic veteran of War World II. He was most proud of his 5 active duty family members currently serving in our armed forces, as well as family members who have previously served and retired. He enjoyed being outside whether it be fishing, working in his garden, or working on his tractor. He worked daily on crossword and sudoku puzzles. He enjoyed talking to people, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved family gatherings and would say "we are blessed, we are really blessed"! His face would light up when any of his grandchildren came to visit. He had a tremendous sense of humor even to the end of his journey. He and his wife, Rachel, celebrated 70 years of marriage September 7, 2010. There will be a void in the lives of his family members, his church family, and his friends. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Rachel Robbins Williams, of the home; children, David N. Williams, of Augusta, GA, Patsy Yow and husband, Ronald, of Asheboro, Sheila Johnson and husband, Dan, of Fairfax, VA, SGM Gregory Williams and wife, Kathy, of Ft. Bragg; grandchildren, Shannon Shetrone, Kimberly Goff, Kelley Keith, Jerry Yow, Christian Johnson, Meredith Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Chad Williams, Kaitlyn Williams, Chase Williams, Charles Moore; and eleven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
