Mr. David Garfield Hill, 80, of 1357 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC, died Friday, September 7, 2012, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Monday, September 10, 2012, at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church with Rev. Avon Craven, Dr. Ron Hamilton and Rev. Brent Tysinger officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Hill was born January 21, 1932. He was the son of the late Braxton F. Hill and Libby Virginia Dennis Hill. Mr. Hill served in the US Navy during Korean War. He served on the Battleship Iowa as a Seaman First Class. Mr. Hill was a member of Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, and served 50 years as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He retired from Brown & Root of Houston, TX and Shirley Construction Company, where he was the General Manager of construction of bridges throughout the southeast. Upon retirement, he found he had artistic talents. He loved carving and painting birds. He also loved hunting, fishing and above all his family. Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Oteia Craven Hill, of the home; daughter, Janice Kay Hill-Bonds, of Honduras; son, David "Alex" Hill, of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Mary Catoe, of Asheboro, NC, Lois Jennings, of Asheboro, NC, Becky Williams, of Robbins, NC; brother, Joseph Hill, of Asheboro, NC; grandsons, Josh and Ethan, step grandsons, Nathan and David, step great granddaughter, McKenzie, great grandchildren, Connor and Makenna. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Sunday, September 9, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
