Davena Rice

Davena Rice, 50, of Raleigh, NC, died Monday, August 29, 2016 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Union Grove Christian Church in Asheboro with Rev. Scott Kidd and Dr. Andrea Dellinger-Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Guilford County, NC, Ms. Rice was born March 23, 1966. She was a graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School class of 1984, and earned her B.S. from Meredith College in Raleigh. She had worked as a claim processor at Nationwide Service Center. She also worked as a nanny for the Carter Glass family and felt privileged to be an extended member of the Glass family. Davena was an active member of Millbrook Baptist Church, Raleigh, and was a dedicated Carolina Panthers fan. Ms. Rice was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Fox Rice. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Floyd Marion Rice and Lucy Tedder Rice; sister, Nancy Rice Stephens and husband, Gilbert, of Cullowhee, NC; and niece, Ivy Corinne Stephens, of Cullowhee, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
