Daniel Webster Efird, Jr.

Daniel "Dan" Webster Efird, Jr., 79, of Asheboro, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 17, 2026.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Born on September 30, 1946, in Guilford County, North Carolina, Dan was the son of the late Daniel Webster Efird, Sr. and Muriel Josephine "Jodie" Stiles Efird.

Dan honorably served his country in the United States Army for 26 years. During his distinguished military career, he completed three tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star for his courage and service. Following his retirement from the Army, he continued serving others through his career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, where he also retired.

Dan found great enjoyment in fishing, watching auto races, and traveling. A man devoted to service, he volunteered with the Randolph County Honor Guard and Special Olympics. He also served as a director for Save the Montagnard People (STMP) and as treasurer for Special Forces 57, faithfully supporting fellow veterans and the causes that were close to his heart.

Above all, Dan's greatest joy was his family. He loved his wife and family unconditionally, and they meant everything to him. His unwavering love, strength, and devotion will be cherished forever, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Dawn Dawson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Mary G. Efird; his daughter, Donna L. Brown and husband, Kenneth Brown, Sr.; his sons, Daniel Webster Efird III, James D. Jones, and Charles S. Alden and wife, Christina; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
