Daisy “Mawmaw” Caviness was a caring wife, loving mother, nurturing grandmother, fun-loving sister, and a supportive friend to everyone.
She peacefully left this world surrounded by her family at her home in Asheboro, NC on August 6, 2023 at age 93.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Covenant Christian Church, with Elderess Faye Green officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
She was born to John and Annie Dunn on January 22, 1930. Growing up with 7 brothers and 2 sisters, Mawmaw played a major role in taking care of her family. Mawmaw met her husband, Marvin Caviness, and together they had 4 daughters.
Mawmaw was devoted to her faith as she called the Green Grove United Church of God her home church. She also loved singing in the Hazel Caviness’ Community Choir.
Mawmaw enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it be watering her flowers, feeding her kitty cats, or simply sitting on the porch with one of her grandchildren. She showed her creativity in all that she did from using every safety pin and bed sheet in the house to craft the most elaborate tents with her grandchildren to buying wood to build customized sandboxes to painting everything like tire swings and porch chairs in vivid colors.
You could often find Mawmaw cooking in the kitchen making biscuits, banana puddings, and sweet potato pies from scratch. She valued spending quality time with her family and was the happiest when her house was filled with laughter of toy snowballs being thrown at Christmas, flying kites, making pets of June bugs, and badminton games being played in the front yard.
Mawmaw was bold, independent, and always told you what she thought if you’d gained a few pounds or had a different hairstyle that she didn’t like. She opened her home to all and she nurtured us all. She was always there when we needed her. Her quick wit, kindness, and deep consistent love will live on through her family.
In addition to her parents, Daisy was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Caviness; sister, Zennie Green; brothers, Ferman Dunn, Johnelle Dunn, Frank Dunn, Hubert Dunn, Bennie Dunn, and Lee Dunn.
She leaves behind to cherish her daughters, Elder Doris Pearson (Jasper), Beverly Siler, Hilda Spinks (Paul), all of Asheboro, Theresa Brady of Greensboro; sister, Annie Spencer of Asheboro; brother, Duncan Dunn of Candor; grandchildren, Melissa, Eric, Amanda, Sheena, Tyson, Breanna, Abigail, Darlene; great grandchildren, LaShun, Chelsea, Seth, Caressa, Allen, Cassandra, Blake, and Mackenzie.
Daisy will lie in repose from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the church prior to the funeral service.
